Schola SA launches its track & field development program, focused on producing the next generation of top track & field athletes within the Western Province.
Through the Schola SA Development program, we have embarked on the ambitious path of developing the next generation of top performing track & field athletes. Through the program, we have looked at athletes residing within the Western Province and affiliated to Western Province Athletics (WPA)
With the start of the 2025 preseason, that started in October 2024, Schola SA included six athletes as part of its program inception. These athletes include:
Chisom Udenze - Chisom is a 16-year-old scholar from the Tygerberg High School in Cape Town. She competes for both Tygerberg High School and the Tygerberg Athletics Club as a Youth Athlete. Her events include the girls 100m and 200m and brags with a 12.09 and 25.27 respectively.
Jordan Wynne - Jordan is a 19-year-old student athlete, studying towards his degree in Business Management at NorthLink College. As a Junior Athlete, Jordan competes in the 400m and 400m Hurdles and brags with a 50.40 and 56.26 respectively.
Alicia De Klerk - Alicia, like Chisom, is a 17-year-old scholar from Brackenfell High School and competes for both her high school and the Tygerberg Athletics Club as a Youth Athlete. Alicia's events include the 100m (12.49), 200m (25.85) and the Long Jump with a personal best just short of the 6m mark.
King James Mwanga - James, like Jordan is an 18-year-old sprinter, competing for the Tygerberg Athletics Club. 2025 will see James enter his student life as a student at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT), where he will compete in the 100m (10.70) and the 200m (22.80).
Rebecca Bosch - Rebecca, currently the youngest athlete in the program at the age of 14, is a scholar at Stellenberg High School, competing in the 90m Hurdles and 300m Hurdles.
Kelsey Sampson - Kelsey, again is a 15-year-old scholar from Tygerberg High School. Kelsey competes for both her school and the Tygerberg Athletics Club in the 100m (12.60), the 200m (26.80) and the long jump (5.10m). 2025 will see Kelsey compete as a youth and U/17 athlete within the Western Province.
Our model, derived from the Schola SA High Performance Development Plan, includes a "bottom-up" approach to the performance and development of these athletes. Under the direction of their coach, Mr Jerome Walters, these athletes will enter the 2025 season aiming to (1) equal and beat their respective personal bests, (2) aim to make the provincial teams in their respective age categories and (3) compete to make the finals and or medal at their National Championships.
2025 and beyond will see Schola SA increase the number of athletes within this program but also expand the age groups to lower the inception age to include 10-year-old athletes from primary schools.
To support the efforts of these athletes and the journey, contact the Schola SA Team and we will be able to communicate the needs of the athletes. Sponsors/Donors may follow the link here to donate or sponsor any monetary support towards the athletes and the program.
